As we build more giant puppets we can use our community's help in tracking down many used and recyclable materials to get creative with!
Email Moni if you would like to donate the following and are able to drop materials off in North Portland (for large building supplies we may be able to arrange to pick-up instead):
CARDBOARD: Large single-ply corrugated cardboard boxes. ALSO single-walled corrugated cardboard sheeting.
CLAY: Water-based/ceramic sculpting clay. Can be dried out--we'll re-hydrate it.
CORRUGATED PLASTIC YARD SIGNS: When political season is over we can turn your signs into puppet heads.
FABRIC: Rip-stop nylon fabric, plus other lightweight, quick-dry, fabrics in large segments. Both colorful and neutral colors, but not patterns.
FLUORESCENT THINGS: We are looking for materials that will glow under black-light, including strips of neon marking tape, neon acrylic or spray paints, glow in the dark paint, and old neon clothing (like t-shirts) that can be cut up and made into costumes, or to decorate puppet bodies.
JARS, 16oz PLASTIC: The small peanut butter ones make great tap-light holders for our lanterns.
LAUNDRY DETERGENT CAPS, CLEAR: The ones you use to measure the bulk liquid detergent for your washing machine make great tap-light holders for our lanterns.
LED FAIRY LIGHTS: Save us your used stings of fairy lights, long or short. We'll recycle the dead watch batteries then rebuild the strings with recyclable AA or AAA battery boxes to use in our lanterns.
PACKING FOAM, FLEXIBLE: Used ethafoam/polyethylene packing material (same stuff pool noodles are made of), the thicker the better. (Please no thin foam wrap or styrofoam).
PAINT BRUSHES: Large (house-painting ones) and small (artist ones). Used is fine as long as they are usable.
PAPER: Big brown paper shopping bags. Used school bulletin board paper / colored Kraft roll paper. White paper bread flour and sugar bags (10lbs and 25lbs). For paper mache.
PLASTIC TABLECLOTHS: The flimsy single-colored tablecloths often used for kids' birthday parties can be cut up and used on the bodies of giant masks and puppets. Clean ones please!
SPRAY PAINT: Old cans you don't need anymore, especially bright and neon colors.
TOMATO CAGES (LARGE): Can be made into lantern puppet armatures.
TWIST TIES: Extra long ones especially.
