In Spring, Summer and Fall we invite volunteers to join us for puppet-build days at our workshop space, located at Green Anchors in North Portland.
Learn the secrets to creating giant masks, puppets, and luminaries as we build pieces for events occurring throughout the year.
Our puppet-build days are mainly suited for adults, but kids can come if they are willing to help their adults.
You can check our calendar to see upcoming puppet build dates and times, but they typically occur on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, (or occasionally on Sundays), from 10am -3pm.
Please RSVP if you are planning to join us!
We recommend you dress for an outdoor location. We have a covered workspace but we are right by the river where it tends to be slightly cooler than the rest of Portland, and sometimes breezy. Also we will be using paste and sometimes clay or paint so don't wear your best outfit.
We typically take a lunch break between noon and 1pm, so bring a bag lunch to enjoy by the river, or plan to grab a quick bite up the hill in downtown St Johns.
Expect to get lost looking for Green Anchors and/or our workshop. Yes, you do have to drive over the train tracks to get to our entry gate. For parking, please park outside of Green Anchors unless you have accessibility needs. There are a couple of parking spots on each side of our entry gate on N Bradford, or else you can use regular street parking on N Baltimore or N Crawford. Please do not park in Workshop St Johns' parking lot (across the train tracks from our entry gate).
We also need volunteers to carry puppets and lanterns in the various events we organize or participate in throughout the year, or who can be a part of our support team at parades and processions.
The best way to keep up to date with our events--and opportunities to participate in them--is to subscribe to our email newsletter. I try to send one out every 4 to 6 weeks or so.
Thanks so much for your interest in volunteering with us! -Moni
