Puppet Camp Weekend is a celebration of puppetry for grown-ups that includes a hands-on introduction to different puppetry styles at our free Saturday Puppet Camp, a performance component at Saturday evening's Puppet Night, and an opportunity to make and perform puppets in a Puppetry Workshop on Sunday afternoon.

This portion of the event is free, but very limited spots are available.
Saturday Puppet Camp spots will be distributed by lottery amongst folks who sign up to the Waiting List for this event. Selection to be made after Waiting List registration closes on 5pm on Monday September 7th (PDT). Join the registration Waiting List HERE.
Puppet Camp introduces folks (18+) to foundational puppetry techniques and different puppetry styles with the goal of forming a small puppetry troupe, as well as to recruit puppeteers for future Wildland Roots, PDX All Souls and PDX Monsters processional art and performance projects.
We are delighted once again to have Adam Ende of Jawbone Puppet Theater in Seattle, and Tim Giugni of the Puppetry Guild of Portland join us as instructors. And we're also excited to add Bill Holznagel (well known in his Outta Hand Puppet Slam alter-ego puppet dog form Randy Knickers) this year as well.
MORNING PROGRAM:
9:30 am - 9:45 am Check-in and split into two groups.
9:45 am -10:45 am Session 1 (2 groups, Adam & Tim teaching)
10:45 am - 11 am 15 min break
11 am-12 noon Session 2 (2 groups, Adam & Bill teaching)
12 noon - 1:30 pm Lunch break
AFTERNOON PROGRAM:
1:30 pm - 2:30 pm Session 3 (2 groups, Tim & Bill teaching)
2:30 pm - 2:45 pm 15 min break
2:45 pm - 3:45 pm Session 4 (1 group, Moni teaching)
3:45 pm - 4:00 pm Clean-up and close

A collection of short puppetry performances by, and for, grown-ups. Expect adultish themes, but also love, humor, compassion, and irreverent silliness. Recommended 18+.

Location:
Green Anchors is directly north of Cathedral Park, but the main entrance gate is on N Bradford by the train tracks. Once inside, walk straight ahead to the sloped lawn in front of the amphitheater stage overlooking the river. We recommend you bring a blanket or folding seat for sitting on the grass.

Our attendance total is strictly limited by City code--so please--if you are unable to attend, we request you cancel your ticket as soon as possible to free up your spot for another.

2D transforming puppetry

Adam Ende of Jawbone Puppet Theatre (Vashon Island, WA) will teach an afternoon class where students will make 2D double-sided transforming puppets from cardboard, then create and perform a short informal show for a small audience.

This is our second year doing this, and we hope to offer it again with each iteration becoming more in depth as we develop our skill-sets, our puppet library, and our connections to folks we can invite in as guest instructors.
We offer a portion of this event for free as we believe that puppetry is a skill that should be accessible to anyone regardless of their financial situation. That said, we happily accept donations from those who can afford to help us cover the costs of producing the event.
Why is Puppet Camp Weekend for grown-ups? Because puppetry is more typically available for (or aimed towards) children, yet there are many adults who've long wanted their very own chance to explore it.
