Day of Puppets
Day of Puppets
The Day of Puppets is a one day celebration of puppetry that includes a hands-on introduction to different puppetry styles at our daytime Puppet Camp for grown-ups, plus Puppet Night, an evening collection of puppetry performance pieces.
Featuring:
Adam Ende of Jawbone Puppet Theater (Vashon Island)
Tim Giugni of Teatro Calimari (Portland)
Other performers TBA
And an onsite bar!
"Puppet Camp" is a free 1 day event to introduce folks to several different styles of puppetry with the goal of learning, having fun, making connections, and maybe even forming a small puppet troupe. We'll also be recruiting folks to perform giant pageant-style puppets at All Souls and local parades and processions.
We're specifically looking for adults who are seriously interested in developing creative puppetry-based works in the North Portland area.
10 am-12 noon
Meet at the Green Anchors pavilion where we will have several stations set up with different puppetry styles including shadow puppetry, rod puppets, rod marionettes, and direct manipulation puppets. Participants will receive a brief intro to the different styles and techniques, then will have time at each station to explore and practice.
12 noon - 1pm
Lunch break
1 pm-3 pm
Meet at the Green Anchors pavilion where we will have several of our giant backpack mounted puppets ready to try out. Participants will receive coaching on how to put on, wear, perform with, and safely dismount the puppets.
This is our very first Day of Puppets event, but we plan to do it again with each year's iteration becoming more in depth as we develop our puppetry skill-sets and puppet library, and our connections to folks to feature as guest instructors and performers.
Do you have a background in puppetry?
Do you have a desire to pass on your skills to others? Do you have a piece you would like to perform at Puppet Night?
